THERE ARE THIRTY (30) TRASH DUMPSTERS IN THE DOWNTOWN BUSINESS DISTRICT THAT ARE IN THE PUBLIC VIEW. In our continuing efforts to beautify Downtown (and the rest of Huntington Beach) with public art, HBPAA arranged to have these dumpsters designed and hand painted by thirty different local artists. To maintain the integrity and beauty of this public art, the dumpsters were then bonded with an anti-graffiti laminate.
Dumpsters on Parade was a competition open to all artists who lived, worked or played in Huntington Beach. Their designs were voted on by more than 5700 members of the Huntington Beach community and the winning artists painted their dumpsters at the Republic Services paint facility. All thirty decorated dumpsters paraded down Main Street on Saturday, October 7th to kick-off an all-day Main Street Art Show. We invited each artist to feature their other art pieces at this event for purchase by our local community members. We also invited local charities to participate and share their mission with more than 10,000 community members who attended the event. Music was provided by the Ramsey Brothers Band and it was an amazing celebration of art, music and local charities.
On Sunday, October 8th, the dumpsters were displayed on the Municipal Pier and by Monday morning the thirty dumpsters were in service at their designated locations throughout Downtown.
